Book Publishing
Announcement: We are now taking submissions for the publication of poetry chapbooks under our organization Delhi Poetry Slam.
A poetry book is an important first step in helping build your name and fanbase for your writing. It is a way for publishers to find the next big poetry talent. This is exactly the reason you should create one.
It is difficult to get a book deal for your first collection of poetry, so many poets start their careers by sharing their work online, participating in open mics, submitting poems to literary magazines, or publishing a chapbook.
So let our team of wonderfully inspired editors and creatives help you publish your first collection of poetry.
What is a chapbook?
A chapbook is a small publication of up to about 40 pages. Usually thin and easy to carry around, they make a great fit to read during transit without the hassle of added weight in a reader's backpack. That's why they are great to distribute and spread around large groups of people. You'd be surprised to know that some of the most powerful books in history started out as chapbooks such as Ted Hughes's 'Animal Poems' and Allen Ginsberg's 'Howl'. These famous authors are still having impact today.
The concept of bite-sized poetry is the next big thing in modern publishing!
How will publishing a book help me?
If your chapbook sells numerous copies, it makes your work more interesting for bigger publishers like Harper Collins or Rupa Publications. With the success of the chapbook, you showed that there is a market for your work after all. It can also increase your chances of publishing a complete collection, because poetry editors at both large and small publishers will keep up to date with the new edition and focus on adding new voices to their list.
How many poems should be there in my chapbook?
You don’t have to have a diary filled with your poetry in order to be able to print a chapbook. You can create one with as many as ten poems.
