BY HEMLATA PORALKAR
We have shared the rainbow's blood,
nursed by our good fortune's two angel deities
who have seasoned our little bones with tender care.
The deepest ocean's trellis is our elders sisters,
or tai (as they are known in our mother tongue.)
Our dreams will soar if we take a flight,
as I believe Mama and Papa have given elders the ability
to let their younger blood to shine but
they’ve buried everything of theirs in return of nothing.
Since elders has been treasuring so many tomorrows for us
despite the problems her younger ducklings are causing,
Tai has no yesterday.
She will grow up to be a hummingbird that silently sings her dreams
but to create us the wild geese, she constantly trades with all of her might.
Because Tai was dancing beneath its depressing shadow,
I noticed flowers that knew how to bloom on spring days.
That day I shed my first tear, I realized the value of honest love.
She was like a Banyan umbrella over my miserable, erratic life,
arming herself around my shattering hollows and cured my
rusted bones to understand the pride of becoming a golden vine.
Our ages are colliding as the years go by.
However, our child-like conversations still have wintry conflicts of joys.
Furthermore, we still have those silly rivalry matches
against each other to dictate who the parent thinks is best.
Mama brought me to the vegetable market that day
so, I could buy everything I wanted, but I stopped
when she whispered, "Tai loves this, Methi; take this before she's gone."
I gasped and questioned, "Where is she going without me?"
She responded, "She has other home too to belong,"
and I cried heavily.
That night, I loathed choices since there was no way to make them,
"To stay with Tai or to let her leave her little pearl behind" – who is –
still infant under a dolphin's fin to pierce through high tides.
Even if there are miles between us,
elders are honouring their vows, such as the Sun rising for us each day.
Maybe I never really understood what home was,
but she's still by my side, lovingly enveloping me in her absence
while her periwinkle preaching are healing my heart.
Her hiding place is simply to find the place where our roots meet
and to have a folk of us succeed so that she can be proud of us till she cries.
To never feel like your heart is alone,
sisters are parenting their sisters like home,
and I'm guilty of ignoring it so far.
For what offense do younger sister deserve to be punished?
If only Tai could imprison me in her new home.
What a poem !!!!!
Its really amazing 🙌
You have really written this poem from your heart….the lines written in it have touched my heart
Really sisters make everything better …❤️
There’s a reason why you’re my favourite poetess among all the known ones.
The way you’ve written those words with so sincerity as if a child narrating a story to mother.. there’s almost no line that’s not telling me, how much your loved ones are directing you to bloom into something really beautiful.. and you, with their support but with all your own will finding meaning in life and meaning in the relations that you cherish.
lot’s of love to this beautiful piece of love and to you❤️🤍
It is just amazing poetry. A precious gift for me from my self-made poetess.
Wow! This poem is so touching and beautifully written! The imagery and emotions you capture are incredible, truly a heartfelt piece about family and connection.
Who can pour all the emotions in just few lines on a piece of paper?
The Poet
Multiple shades of emotions about sisters are just flowing through only one shade of your ink, that’s a beauty of your poem.
Your choice of words is just clicking into my mind to decipher the depth of their meanings😅,
“Awesome”
Keep it up.
Big congratulations 🎉!!
This is really amazing and heartmelting!! How easily expressed in beautiful words, There are many emotions hidden in this poem about sister realation…
God cannot be present everywhere, which is why He created parents. And since parents cannot be with us for a lifetime, that’s why we have siblings. I personally believe that, many times, our parents cannot understand us, but our siblings do, and that’s why we feel so strongly about them.
You narrate everything so beautifully. I especially love the line, ‘To stay with Tai or to let her leave her little pearl behind – who is still an infant under a dolphin’s fin, trying to pierce through high tides.’ It shows how she is also like a pearl, yet trying to brave the strong waves.
I love your way of writing, where you pour all emotion into every word. You are my new favorite poetess, and your words fill my heart and eyes with joy. I feel truly blessed to have you in my life.
🦋❤️
