I Woke Up For A Fresh Start

By Maryam Fatima
I woke up for a fresh start,
wanting the negativity to depart,
because with anxiety in the heart,
smiling becomes an art.
I tried to move on from my past,
but was unaware of the shadow it would cast.
Didn’t know how long the void would last.
Its eternal depth left me aghast.
A sentiment so deep,
memories form a heap.
The pain, I hide.
Now, the tears have dried.
Promises, I keep.
With hope, I sleep.
It is difficult to trust,
because once upon a time,
destiny was not just.
Looking at this gust,
I am reminded, slowing down is a must.
In life,
I wish to be jubilant.
For it, out of this mess,
I have to come out exultant.

  • I’m so proud of the woman you’ve become, Maryam. This is very well articulated. And above all, it’s expressed very raw without caring how the flow or the rythm should sound like, which is why I absolutely love it.
