Condoned Mother

By Heena Joon

The mother woke ages
Before her children.
Preparing and setting stages,
making space to grow and learn.
Food and shelter,
ensured under her care.
Belief that nothing will alter,
Of consequences, they will be aware.
Her nurturing soul
welcomed with open arms.
But soon demands took toll,
diminishing her light and charms.
The children were savages,
not even sparing her core.
Her soul dying from the damages,
The injuries leaving her sore.
She constantly cried,
hoping some would hear the wails.
She tried and tried,
Neglecting her they set the sails.
Even after her heinous death
The mother will wake ages
before her children,
Preparing and setting stages,
making space to grow and learn.
