Dr. Nilima Goswami Sarma

Dr. Nilima Goswami Sarma was born on 4th June, 1963. She was an Associate Professor & HOD of Assamese Language and Literature for last 34 years in Lalit Chandra Bharali College, Maligaon, Guwahati, Assam, India. She retired from her service as a Vice-Principal on 30th June, 2023. She is very much interested with Literature and Language but especially with Poetry. She is a dedicated listener of poetry. Most of her poems transcribed from her own experiences that she has encountered. Many of her Poems are published in Assamese and National level magazines and newspapers like 'Prantik', 'Gariyashi', 'Dainik Asom', 'AmarAsom', 'Daink Janambhumi' etc. She has already published three Books under ISBNs i.e. 'Kani Noit Ban Ahichil' (2002), 'Kandon Bhangar Kandon' (2012), 'Asamiya Sahityat Jatiyatabodh Sishu Sahitya Aru Anyanna' (2018). Also she has written in Bengali Language which were published in 'Dainik Jugasangkha', 'Pratiddhani', 'Amra O Ajker Sahitya' etc. Some of her Assamese Poems are translated into Bengali by renowned poets like Bikas Sarkar and Satyajit Choudhury. 

She was also a Gold Medalist (B.A in Assamese, 1981-82) from Gauhati University breaking a record after 25 years. She also received Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund Prize from Teen Murti Bhavan, New Delhi (1981). She also received Bani Kanta Kakoti Prize for securing the first position in Master's Degree from Gauhati University (1987). She also received Jeevan Jura Sadhana Award in 2023 from Sahitya Sanskriti Manch, Assam.

Dr. Nilima Goswami Sarma was chosen from among thousands of applicants to be part of the World Poetry Project 2025. Her poems were subsequently published in Across Latitude & Language, a global anthology showcasing the works of all participants of WPP 2025.
