Winter

By Mohini Dave

Cold wintry dawn time
Steaming cup of tea
Darkness still lingering
On top of the tree
Fragrance of the flowers
Drifting in so gently
Squirrels, frogs and birds
Scurrying around intently
Silently the dawn
Replaces the night
All around the garden
Everything looks bright.

Cold wintry mornings
Sun warming the skin
Sitting on the lawn chair
Doing simply nothing.
A warm cup of coffee
In my hand I cradle
A well loved book
Waiting on the table.
Time to empty the mind
Of every negative thought
Slowly getting to go inside
As the Sun turns hot

Cold wintry afternoons
Curled on a divan
Listening to old songs
On the Caravan
Eyes closing slowly
As the warmth spreads
Legs curled underneath
Blanket over the head.
Ginger tea's aroma
Wafting from the kitchen
Slowly waking up and
Stretching like a kitten.

Cold wintry evenings
Taking a brisk walk
Alone or with friends
On the walking track.
Feeling the cold wind on skin
Tying the scraf round tight
Stamping feet and rubbing hands
In the wintry twilight.
Returning home to hot soup
Traveling down your throat
Warming the whole body
In a single stroke.

Cold wintry nights
Snuggling down in bed
With a delightful day gone
And a new day ahead.
As the warmth settles
And the cold is gone
A feeling of calm and peace
Lasts till the morn.
Winter days are nice
Winter has its own charm
Winter can be enjoyed.
If you keep yourself warm.
