Who am I – Delhi Poetry Slam

Who am I

By Rohan Roychowdhury

Who am I to say
it is wise to love and foolish to hate, for the former bestows peace of mind and the later destroys the same?
Who am I to say
There is more to life than consumption and hoarding objects in exchange for the environment?

Who am I to say
It is not the beauty of nature that is enough,
Nor power, physical and intellectual that is enough,
nor enticing beautiful women enough to justify the meaning of existence?

To say that every act that intends to beautify nature and every act to convict nature for it's violence are incomplete.

To justify fear, restricting our freedoms in exchange for freedom as incomplete.

To say every act intending to empower our reasoning, to bring about change, to bring motivation, to bring about life.
To give reason to live,
To give reason to die,
All are incomplete,
But in this incompletion,
In this absolute lack of control,
I fell in love,
Headless, egoless,
Asking -
Who am I.
Untouching, unthinking,
White board I use to write my question, I erase daily to understand the question,
more refined, more defined.

And each time I read:
The smell of roses;

Each time I read:
pure white garments;

Each time I read:
Deep penetrating eyes, as if they have seen everything;

Each time I read:
Gentle smile of reassurance;

Each time I read:
My name;

Each time I read:
I love you;

And so finally I asked restless:
Who am I?

The board itself made it clear.
I am you.
