Whispers of Chilika Lake

By Aadya Kanchan

The brine breeze dances in my nose,
Waves crash on the shores,
Sand crunches beneath my feet,
As the winds carry a fleet.

The sun and moon share a space,
Providing us this delightful escape,
The hues of twilight blending true,
Reflected delicately on the inky blue.

My thoughts are swaying,
Along with the palms shifting and bending,
I sit on the coarse beach,
Sand imprinting on my skin, each.

My hands are folded in a prayer,
Recounting life layer by layer,
Sitting in my solitary silence,
As I try to understand life’s nuances.

Is life easy or complex?
A marathon or a reflex?
What to do? When? How?
Questions whirl, a tornado now.

Expectations and desires,
Success or failures,
Wise or knave,
Strong or brave.

Deep breath in, deep breath out…

Love or hate,
Destroy or create,
Cherish or forget,
Wrong or correct.

Deep breath in, deep breath out…

The storm has cleared,
The world ceased,
Eyes closed in serenity,
Washed in serendipity.

The wisdom of the lake encapsulates my soul,
My spirit ignited, like a coal.

I stand up,
Drinking in the sight,
Life’s a journey, not a plight.

I walk back to my friends,
This is a new beginning, not an end.
As my footprints buried in the sand like a moment from time claimed,
The one who returned was different from the one who came…
