Where The Compass Points Home

By Isha Kukreti

Everything I lose creates space for everything I need
I just need to let it find its way to me
I don't need to struggle, I don't have to bleed
For the things to turn out the way they're meant to be

There's a little girl in me who believes in a fairy tale
And there's an adult who's seen that dream bail
Not once has she ever walked out on me
Just smiled and had an innocent plea

I'm not asking for too much, she says
Just somebody who walks a little slower to match my pace
I refuse to believe there isn't a love as such
That isn't just all about a body or face

It's healing, it's true
Through the reds and the blues
Thy shall he, the one to be
Is out there desperately looking for me

Because God wouldn't create a heart like mine
Without creating a heart that knows how to align
Where the compass of my soul is enshrined

Hey little girl, I hear you now
You're in me and you know better somehow
I won't let us get bitter and bow
Down to settling down in an unfaithful vow

No reality checks for my baby
For love there ain't no maybe

Adulting breaks and shatters every hope and play
Every dream you dreamt goes farther away
But for this stubborn little girl the universe will make it work anyway

'Cause you didn't give up through it all
I kept you safe through the hardest falls
One thing I did right?
Kept my inner child alive.
