What if! – Delhi Poetry Slam

What if!

By Priya Awasare

What if the high wall’s not a barrier, but a place to lean and find support?
What if the door’s not meant to shut, but opens into joy, for play and cavort?
What if the window of chance stays sealed, not yet your time to soar?
And stillness now is the key that unlocks something greater at your core.

What if taking charge means pausing, sitting still to truly heal?
What if introspection is the need of the hour and bias for action needs to keel?
What if we looked inward first, before chasing the world outside?
Letting go of restless doing and the endless urge to stride.

What if the exam you flunked is not to shame, but a chance to restart?
A stepping stone, not a verdict. A fresh script to set you apart.
What if those failed attempts are nudges, urging you to rise?
What if that missed-out job was simply good fortune in clever disguise?

What if you turned inward, stayed still, and tuned out every doubtful noise?
What if you are meant for worthier things that you now don’t realize?
What if the pain, you hesitate to embrace, is a bear hug in hindsight?
What if it seems difficult at first? It is just the fear in our heads that we need to fight.

What if the fear that blocks your path is a mere shadow, not a long night?
For courage is kindled slowly and quietly into a reassuring positive light.
What if the love you lost made space for wisdom that both sides gained?
What you thought were misplaced moments were memories gently framed.

What if fleeting joys are sheer visitors, not friends who stay for long?
And challenges are true companions who shape you to be strong.
What if today is not the tomorrow you envisioned yesterday?
What if it all turns out brilliant the day after, albeit with a little delay?
What if, despite the hard work, Lady Luck today is not on your side?
With gratitude, grit, and hope, as friends will surely help you to ride the new tide.
