Wandering In Wonder

By Sovira Lal

I wonder how these silences were once paragraphs.
I wonder how these faint smiles were once chuckles and laughs.

I wonder how these glances were once symphonies,
How empty hands once held galaxies with ease.
I wonder if memory rewrites or preserves,
The way we once loved with unspoken verbs.

I wonder how these pauses once knew all the words,
How even our quiet was tender, not blurred.
Now spaces stretch where promises slept,
And all that's left is what we almost kept

I wonder if you remember it too or forgetting it was easier for you.
I wonder if it keeps you up at night as well,
I wonder if echos of us in your chest still swell.

I wonder if you reach for me in some forgotten dream,
Or have I faded in a half remembered scene?
