Wails of the War

By Sushmita Lahkar

The choppers fly in the clouds bedecked azureness,
Day is devoid of light, debris of bombed homes smother.
Night too lurks as the Evil Goon, missiles fly like stars
And Burns the City like a Pyre.
Emotions are rife, Anger true,
And the thin line between Sanity is wiped too.
The fire within is loud in the streets,
Tearing down the arteries; scarring the skin,
Gnawing at the soul of every one breathing;
The Bombs and Sirens replaced the Lullabies at Night,
Fear of the Unknown, Assurances Meek,
The Future at Stake, the Present Bleak.
Humanitarian aid bombed, Tragic stories afloat, Deaths are dime a dozen.
Will the Wails of the Innocents simply go in Vain?
The City Burns, the Hearts Weep;
Young and Old, martyred in a Sweep,
Do you even know What's Burning Today?
The Hopes, Beliefs, Expectations are the sacrifices Everyday!
The Love's gone too far and Fury gave it a bad name,
But the Voiceless are always the Oppressed!
They seek us to be Virtuous, for all we may Care,
As that we deeply Love, can we Truly Share?
