O' mother, why am I not welcome?
O' mother, why people are worried?
O' mother, why you pray for a boy in temple?
O' mother, why in womb I feel threatened?
Is it because I am a girl?
Is it because I will not carry the lineage?
Is it because my marriage needs more spending?
Is it because I will need protection?
O' mother women are strong
Bearing excruciating pain of child birth
O'mother women are fierce
While protecting their own
O' mother she can take care of family
O' mother she can contribute in society
O' mother she can carry family name
O' mother she can invent and discover too
O' mother let me prove
All that I said to you
O' mother let me come
Don't wish for a boy yet!
O' my girl, I know your strength
O' my girl, I know your potential
O' my girl, I know your beauty
O' my girl, I know your loving heart
I also know this petty world
I also know the lust eyes that prey
I also know the toxicity in workplaces
I also know the cheat & deceiving love
O' my girl I want to protect you
O' my girl I want you to live free
But saddened with the reality around
My heart fears for you battling each day
O' my girl, I so wish for a girl
Beautiful and loving
O' my girl, but it will kill us alive to see
If we ever Lose you to heinous devils
That's why my girl, I wish for a boy instead
Beautifully captured the Unsaid essence of a mother. Beaming with joy with future of new life but at same time her future gets questioned before tiny eyes even dare to open
This is so beautiful and heartfelt. 🤍
That is so true. The fear and the choice that the mother makes for her daughter. A powerful poem.
A powerful and deeply emotional piece that beautifully captures both the strength of women and the harsh fears imposed by society.
A woman is not just someone who gives birth – she is smart, caring, patient & strong enough to change the world with her kindness and strength
Beautifully capturing both the strength of women and the heartbreaking fears of a mother.
Last paragraph really summed up the agony. Emotional
Reading this got me goosebumps..!!
It is so well written. Kudos to the writer to capture the true essence of the reality we face today as soon to be mothers!
Such a thought provoking piece!
