Under her Wings

By Alva Syiemlieh

She
Beneath my wings, I held you close.
My children.. of a different breed, yet
Bound as one by the seven seas.
For ages, we nested in peace-
In harmony's embrace, we played.

And I would sing to you a song…

Hush, my babies, sleep-dancing in peaceful dreams.
Be free, for I embrace you under my wings.
The stars shall guide you, as I do-
The wind hums you lullabies, too.

A terror fell..
For his every greed,
The beast killed my soul,
And left me a husk to grief.

My children are lost;
The light grows dim.
Oh! My God, what have I done,
That I deserve this pain within?

Them
Our Mama is gone.
Where should we hide?
Where should we run?
Oh! Our God, what have we done?
The beast has stolen our harmony-
And left us to die in agony.

She
My soul is burnt.
Yet still, I pray,
And to you, I sing a song:
Hush, my babies, don’t cry for me.
One day soon, the beast will see-
What he sows, so shall it be.
