Two of a kind – Delhi Poetry Slam

Two of a kind

By Amaira Kapoor

Once upon a time we were strangers
Just trying to survive,
Hoping we'd thrive
Who knew we'd grow so close at heart

The times we spent in the bus
How you listened to me yap without any fuss

Screaming out our fav song,
The times we went to the mall,
Arguing over Taco Bell or McDonalds
Until someone else had to intervene to take the final call

Flooding of your camera roll,
The endless talks inside the washroom,
That’s what chased away my gloom.

Waiting for exam results
Squeezing each other’s hands
And on August 3rd, exchanging friendship bands

Suppressing our laughter when the teacher mispronounced a word,
Celebrating all our accomplishments,
A genuine friendship without judgment.

Hey-
I love you
More than anything or anyone
I know, without a doubt,
You’re the one I can’t live without

I’d never leave your side
I’ll lift you up when you feel like you want to hide
In laughter's light or moments gray,
I’ll stand beside you every day

Share with me your dreams, your hopes, your fears,
I’ll never make fun of you
Because I know you would never do that too

No distance can or ever will
Make me forget how much you mean to me
No one can ever replace you
And that’s something that will always remain true

Its so strange
How around you I never feel like I should change
Nothing can make or break
Our friendship that’s never been fake

So here’s to you, my friend,
A bond that time can never bend.
With you, the world feels full and true,
Forever grateful, I have you
