Troubles of a Shy Girl – Delhi Poetry Slam

Troubles of a Shy Girl

By Sierra Lynx

It may seem like I’m busy,
Lost in music, talks or books.
But the truth is my eyes and ears,
Are on the lookout for you.

The thought of your presence,
The mere mention of your name,
Is enough for my senses,
To switch to Turbo mode.

Your charming smile,
Has my heart racing.
Your effortless confidence,
Is mesmerizing.

And that’s when begins,
A game of contradictions.
Wanting to catch your eye,
While being invisible.

How is it possible,
For a distraction to be subtle?
How is it possible,
To make peacocks out of turtles?

So, grateful yet unwilling,
I resort to stealing glances.
Like peeking from a hiding spot,
A prey wanting to get caught.

I smile at the jokes,
You share with others.
I know it’s bad manners,
But what else can I do?

The amount of courage I need,
To look into your eyes,
And speak coherently,
Is more than what I possess.

And I really don’t know,
If I’ll thank or curse the Heavens,
If you ever notice me.
Hopefully, I won’t faint or something.

  • Well we all can agree on atleast ONE fact that we all went through these emotions… During that phase of infatuation where we love the imagined conversations in our heads and the second long glances we exchange, that feeling that we wanna be seen but we stay hidden, that we wanna be bold and forthcoming but stay quiet and reserved… And it always ends with that fear, that hope and that feeling at the back of our minds that WHAT IF…

Relatable, Raw & Deeply Human it was! Loved how it made me feel.
