Tribute

By Nikita Satish Swami

November 9, 2011 was the day,
When you breathed last and a great twist in life came my way.
Neither a good bye nor a word you said,
Did you even think of the promises you made?

That birthday, Christmas and New Year were never the same,
All our birthdays, festivals, anniversary celebrations I dreaded when they came.
How do I detach myself from you? All the time I keep thinking and longing for you.
Your Uniform, Diary, Outfits and Photos are all Kept,
Those take me to our golden memories and a legacy that you have left.

Big loopholes need to be filled I confirm,
But, what about your touch and presence?
How do I affirm?
I need to put on a brave face because I don't have a choice!
I often argue with my destiny,
Why can't she choose to be little nice to me?

Days will pass, things will change,
But the vacuum that you have left cannot be replaced within any range!
I thought my existence will be over and I will break down into pieces.
But I chose to be an owl which is awake though dark,
Waiting for a new embark.

Now, that uniform, diary and photos are all mine,
With the faith, strength and love you have bestowed, I will just be fine!

- Tribute to my (late) father who served as a Police Officer.
