The Yellow Flower

By Jana Suresh

I passed by a beautiful yellow flower by the river stream;
Took a quick peek on the inhabitants making a scheme.

Busy bees hovering around for sucking the nectar;
Tiny black ants toiling for the sweet sector,
Butterflies in coloured hue fluttering above as (honey) collector,
Altogether building up the flower's glamour!

OouuHuff! ! came the howling wind,
The yellow flower shook:

It's fragrance melting in the air,
It's pollen flew and stuck in my nose hair,
And I sneezed!
Bees buzzed hurriedly back to it's hives;
Butterflies winged up to the next row of lillies,
Ground fallen ants rushed in retreat;
To the dotted sandy homes in haste;
To preserve the nectar and not to waste.

The yellow flower pondered:
"I shared my nectar with the bees, butterflies and ants;
I gave my fragrance to the air,
I gave my pollen to the girl,
What gifts would they be sharing and surprising me with?"

The yellow flower waited and waited;
The bees, butterflies and ants ain't return back with gifts,
Stuck by the yellow flower's aroma;
I Returned back the next day,
I Touched it; I Felt  it,
And I plucked it!

With the Yellow Flower adorning my hair;
I climbed up the temple steps.

Postlude:

"Ooooooiiiiiiii!!" Squeaked , chirped and buzzed the bees, butterflies and ants,
"Sooo cruel the girl is" they believed.

Yet the girl had different thoughts,
"Oh ! beautiful yellow flower ,
You live for alas 'a day',
You wither and fall,
You become one with the soil below",
She thought-
" I will carry you, keeping on top of my head;
I will climb the countless steps of the mighty temple,
I will offer you at His lotus feet-
For your salvation;
For 'my yellow flower's' salvation.
