The church bell rang as the clock struck twelve
The parishioners wished peace
As the old year ends
And the new one begins.
But I could see, darkness
Lurking in-between the glee.
Who is he?
The streets were filled with colorful confetti
The remnants of celebrations
From the last night,
To welcome the new year.
But I could see, darkness
Lurking in-between the glee.
Who is he?
The house smelled of delicious biriyani
A symbol of heartfelt celebration
In a Christian household.
The first feast of the new beginning.
But I could see, darkness
Lurking in-between the glee.
Who is he?
As she – the daughter – of the family
Left the house to visit her friends
In a poise car; the Morris Minor
With a hope of a fresh new start.
But I could see, darkness
Lurking in-between the glee.
Who is he?
She glided through the roads
With an elegant stance
Singing songs merrily
From the bottom of her heart.
But I could see, darkness
Lurking in-between the glee.
Who is he?
A white kitten crossed the road
With whimsy and frivolity
She – the daughter – of the family
Turned the car, hastily
But I could see, darkness
Lurking in-between the glee.
Who is he?
The car crashed over a humungous tree
Time stopped for a second
As her hopes and dreams
Crashed along, against the tree
She lay there, with her bloodied body
But I could see, darkness
Lurking in-between the glee.
Who is he?
He was death himself
The grim reaper, petting the white kitten
While guiding her – the daughter – of the family
Into the endless eternity.
