The Way to Go

By Sivakami A M

The music stopped,
for the world disappeared.
I was summoned back
to a cage
I knew I couldn’t escape.

Half-peeled oranges
rot by the benches.
But I dare open the windows
to throw them out.
It was a daunting thought.

For what’s behind the doors
remains a mystery,
existed the known agony.
The Silence that stays
finding me astray.

Hunted over my mind,
only to find
scars that still ache.
Roses that’re too dry and dead,
to ever be gifted.

Tears that betray,
fell for all pain,
and none for mine.
A smile appears
in the shattered mirrors.

Waiting for the day
dried roses find a home,
amidst pages.
Tears fall tight,
loosening the tie.

But this silence,
it keeps coming back.
Maybe that’s what I lack.
A lonely void
filled with silent thoughts.

To the comfort of the cage, or
to the light of the town,
it all comes down.
Only the windows shall know,
The way to go.
