The tiny yet a powerful word 'No'

By Radhika Deolekar

Dear Mind,
It's time to make this new beginning-
To know that you are entitled to say 'No',
Without any guilt of being mean or selfish.
To accept ‘No’ as a complete sentence,
That does not require any explanation...

It's time to love yourself enough-
To set firm limits and healthy boundaries,
Because your time and energy are precious.
To trust the instincts of how much your mind and body can take-
It’s not your responsibility to bake everyone’s cake.

It's time to say,
"I understand how much you want it, but I just cannot make it."
A humble and polite ‘No’ sometimes opens the window
To honesty and integrity in a relationship.
And people will now know
What you will and will not be accepting.

It's time to be aware and conscious-
To say 'Yes' only when
It does not mean saying 'No' to yourself.
Permit yourself,
And remember to be at peace
With your own decision.

  • Such a deep and meaningful poem. The empowering word which we forget to use at the right time and right place. A great reminder to follow something we have but yet under utilise it. 👍
