The Mirror of Conscience – Delhi Poetry Slam

The Mirror of Conscience

By Parvez Kumar

In starless night,
Dreamless sleep,
On sunless day,
Alone I weep.

In the darkest room
Of my scarlet heart,
I see no end,
I see no start.

The beads of past
Around my neck
Choke my present
And pull me back.

A light in murk,
Dim and alive,
I find in hope —
I see I survive.

You are more
Than you think;
Yourself to Nature,
You need to link.

You’re an organism
Within an organism.
You’re a universe
Within a universe.
You’re God
Within God.

I will close my eyes,
And you will be away.
In darkness and cry,
You’ll feel my pain.

Close my eyes.
Speak your lies.
I am a kid, kid, kid.

Let me close my eyes
And open yours to the world.
No matter tomorrow we die,
It’ll be happy and sad.

Close my eyes.
Pay the price
For my karm, karm, karm.

  • At last I’m reading something that looks, sounds and tastes like poetry. Finally, aargh! You have to walk for weeks in jungles of poorly constructed lame lines, until you read something meaningful and – beautiful, I daresay. Thank you! Simply – thank you. We all are kids, kids, kids, god bless us. But at least the universe is closer than one might assume. Right there, in our trembling scarlet hearts. And – minds, of course minds.
