The Last Sunset

By Dhwani Kurani

The grass tonight is soft ,
beneath my palms,
The coolness of the air embraces me,
Am I finally away from everything that causes me harm?

The night sky is welcoming,
Stars shining so bright,
somewhere far the waves are crashing,
hear the ocean singing with everything else so quiet.

The flowers bloom on my chest,
making me one of their own,
the earth never felt more like home,
now that I've seen everything that needed to be shown.

My eyes grow heavy,
as dusk turns into dawn,
the sky swirling in colours of orange and pink,
as if it is something a child has drawn.

The time slows down now,
or so it seems,
The first ray of sunlight falls on me,
lovingly, it touches my face as it gleams.

Finally, I surrender to darkness,
to myself now I think,
death must be so beautiful,
to find myself in peace again, as for the last time I blink.
