The Grand Spectacle of Lies – Delhi Poetry Slam

The Grand Spectacle of Lies

By Souvik Biswas

Step right in, take a seat,
The show begins—oh, what a feat!
With scripts prepared and screens aglow,
We tell you what you need to know.

A single frame, a careful slice,
One truth cut up, then served as twice.
The world’s on fire? No, don’t ask why—
Here’s a scandal to catch your eye!

The youth once dreamed, they hoped, they thought,
Now fed with trends their minds are bought.
A thousand likes, a viral spree,
Yet all they learn is what we decree.

And if the truth won’t play along,
We’ll hum the tune until it’s song.
Repeat, repeat, until it sticks,
A hollow phrase, a mind’s quick fix.

Unemployed? But wait, don’t stress!
We’ve cherry-picked the stats for press.
“Numbers rise!” the headlines cheer—
Ignore the hunger, wipe the tear.

The influencers? Oh, so wise,
They sell their words, they sell their lies.
Their scripted rage, their borrowed views,
A paycheck hides behind each cue.

And if a face won’t say the right,
We'll mold one new with AI’s might.
A picture here, a voice so grand,
Reality shaped by unseen hands.

So sit back, trust, don’t ask too much,
We shape the world with just a touch.
For in this age of screens,
Truth is just what we make it seem
And reality fades behind the scenes.
