THE FELONY OF EXISTENCE

By Sarang Gujar

Their whispers are forbidden, let alone their existence.
Bare smiles veiled, exposing the misogyny.
Shackled to the ‘custodians’, following the paths like a leashed pet, with their very own paths erased.
Helplessly, losing their identities in the sea of oppressions.
But the unsettled waves piqued by humiliations do rise up to claim the pride, but are silenced by the Kalashnikovs.
And the ones who do, like Farkhunda and many, are condemned.
oppressors have an irrational fear of the Women more than their very own barbarism,
They think the presence of women would lead them to temptations, and to be on a ‘straight’ path they choose deviant, ruthless ways.
No dreams to see, no letters to read, and no air to breathe.
Their walls of home slowly becoming their graves.
For years they have been enduring such fate, the true martyrs, the Afghan women
Voicing for their rights…. right against the pull of the trigger!
