The Dark Shadows – Delhi Poetry Slam

The Dark Shadows

By Arhaan Prakash

I sit alone with no one near,
The silent shadows bring me fear.
With no connection to the world outside,
I begin to sway and glide.

The darkness slowly wraps my mind.
A void where I cannot find,
A way to speak, to be alive.
In thin air I survive.

Even though I breathe it’s hard to feel,
Like time has stopped and I cannot heal.
I long for light but all is still,
In this cold world against my will.

  • Extremely good. To know that a 4th std boy is writing such poetry is really heart warming. It is sublime. I am reminded of Wordsworth’s words “soul stirring harmony”. All the very best and God’s blessings in abundance.

  • The intellect of the poet is clearly depicted in his poem. For him age is just a number. Tamasoma jyothirgamaya is not just a mantra but a value to be cherished by all . Arhaan has cleared understood the importance of this value . His poem is the expression of his craving for this transition.I wish him a bright future.

  • Wow! For someone so young, your poem is incredibly deep and powerful. You’ve used beautiful words to express big feelings, and that’s something even grown-up writers find hard to do! The way you describe loneliness and hope shows how thoughtful and talented you are. Keep writing your imagination and heart will take you far!

  • To me the poignant words of the bold poet reflect inner conflict, unuttered emotions, and the feeling of being trapped. Amazing dexterity with words and total honesty with thoughts.

His imagery reminds me of Thoreau’s observation: “most men lead lives of quiet desperation”.

  • Creating a nostalgia in the mind! Factual situation of aspiring young minds are depicted in a pessimistic frame. Hope the young minds wake up to realise the message!
