The Curtain Plants – Delhi Poetry Slam

The Curtain Plants

By Sumitha Mary Jacob

The curtain plants creep down in unison
To flourish and not to fail
The leaf strings intertwine in elegant ensemble
To strengthen and shield and not to let go

As the canopy expands, they whisper to the breeze
We twirl with your tunes, sway with every blow
Interwine to strengthen as you gustle through the vines
To sprout and flourish and not to let go

Within the tender armour of greenery,
Rest many a tiny sparrow, barbet and bulbul
To strengthen their pinions , to  soar  higher
Grateful for the siesta, they bless and depart

The canopy holds a citadel for some
Slender caterpillars slither through the entangle
Stode away from the mighty predators around
Grateful for the armour, the colourful monarch departs

The walls resonate, a tell tale  unfolds
I was  once abashed,  filthy and grey
The curtain plants swathed my frame with green
My cracks were  concealed, my once mottled face gleamed

Natures marvel, to sustain and surpass
To enrich and overcome, each other together
Tempest and devourer may come without fail
But together we shall subdue every gale
