The Childhood I Never Had

By Komal Singh

I think I lost my childhood
When I came to know I didn't want to grow,
Or may be when I realized
everyone has to go

Everyone has their prime time,
But I don't remember a time called prime.
Whenever I look back ,
I see an under confident girl
trying hard to be confident.

She hides a lot- that's why she smiles a lot.
Everyone think she's chill , she's happy
But only she knows
how much pain she's hiding

Now,
She's mastered the art of hiding.
It took her 18 years to understand:
this is life,
and this hide-and-seek
Is part of it-
Where everyone hides,
and no one seeks.

Everyone's trying to settle in their own life.
Now she wonders:
What is childhood?
Is it when someone make decisions
Without fearing consequences?
Or when someone truly enjoys
every moment of life?

If so,
Then she can proudly say:
She's in her childhood now,
Enjoying it-
Without being a child.
