Sunny summer sunday – Delhi Poetry Slam

Sunny summer sunday

By Roshan Sapam

In my shady backyard garden
Where I hardly need any fan
I laid peg table with iced beer
Next to my Adirondack chair
Hoping to make it count my day
One fine sunny summer sunday

Strong and tall stands the Bonsum tree
In whose shade I set my will free
Untouched is the summer heat there
And I sit there with ice-cold beer
To make the day without delay
One fine sunny summer sunday

Soon came a pair of Nightingales
Giggling, singing with waving tails
Upon branches of the Bonsum
Mocking me for I am lonesome
Trying to spoil my day and slay
This fine sunny summer sunday

I smiled upon their silly act
For I am not lonesome in fact
It is just a matter of time
That I have to wait and be kind
For my love will join me someday
One fine sunny summer sunday.
