Soar

By Prisha Prisha

You have destroyed her tenacity.
Her willpower
The only thing she had left.
You have given her everything that isn't hers to own,
You have gifted her an empty life,
Filled with hollow joys and hollow sorrows.
And you have cut her wings
Ah no,
You have merely 'trimmed' them,
She sings her songs
In the golden cage you have built
With a fake sky
And counterfeit clouds.
You have created a world for her to live in,
Free of outside influence
Nobody can touch her
Let alone harm her
But don't you see how you have taken her life away?
She knows what the outside world looks like.
She knows of a life beyond what you have built for her.
She knows of true freedom.
And she is desperate for it,
She hungers for her future.
She awaits the day that your iron barricade cracks
The day that your created cage has a rift,
She will escape
And she will taste suffering
And she will know pain
And she will live
For that is what freedom means to her.
Perhaps you will despair,
Seeing her far away, facing the world.
You will grieve
Noticing the fact that she no longer needs you.
But perhaps she hasn't needed you for a long time now.
Open your eyes fool.
Gaze upon your creation.
Look as she storms the world.
She is not a golden canary,
She is an eagle.
See how she flies,
Watch as she soars.
