She – Delhi Poetry Slam

She

By Chewang Uden Lepcha

She is a girl, bright-eyed and full of dreams,
a cherished daughter loved in radiant beams.
She is a sister, a confidant so true,
a devoted mother, her passion ever grew.

She is a wife, a partner strong and kind,
a citizen engaged, with a sharp, brilliant mind.
Yet she’s often treated like a mere thing,
a priceless treasure without a crown or ring.

She holds everything together with grace,
creating peace, with a smile on her face.
She is the reason for our very existence,
yet you often overlook her persistence.

She is a woman; she is she,
a beacon of strength and serenity.
One can’t fathom the weight she bears,
yet she walks through life with utmost care.

She lifts others' souls, though hers remain hidden,
hiding her own scars, deep and unbidden.
Her heart is a vessel of unspoken pain,
yet she stands resilient through storm and rain.

She dreams of freedom, of soaring high,
of touching the stars in the vast night sky.
She fights battles, both seen and unseen,
in a world that can often be harsh and mean.

But in her eyes, a fire burns bright,
a woman’s spirit, ready to fight.
For every woman is a story, a song,
a tale of endurance, where she belongs.

She is a girl, a daughter, a sister so dear,
a mother, a wife, her heart pure and clear.
She carries the world, yet asks for so little,
her strength a force, both gentle and brittle.

So here’s to the women, in all their might;
may they find their voice, their wings in flight.
For behind every smile, every silent cry,
is a woman who dreams, who dares to defy.
