Roses

By Shuchi Mahajan

A rustle of fresh morning breeze
gentle in the rose bushes heard
spurring them into a little dance
dew drops slip from the petals
that fold in unusual geometry
reflecting brilliant shades
light streaks run to the center
deep hues towards outer curves
sprightly green bushes
in the effervescent glow of sun
surround deep maroon buds
wafting fragrance on delicious breeze
as well proportioned leaves
dance to its captivating music
and petals unfurl slowly, softly
revealing the beauty trapped
inside the streaked corolla
a perfect personification
of perpetual pleasure locked
inside the twisted green flaps
a measure of visual delight
for the senses ever eager
on a lookout for inspiring images..
