Recycle Bin

By Supriya Vasishta

Thinking….

If only I could access lost time
Like deleted content
From life’s recycle bin
Breathe recollection into that extinct memory
Resume my journey
Down the long road of ennui and despair

Forgotten hopes
Lay like brittle leaves
Turning russet in fall
Trembling motes of sunlight
And the cry of the myna mock my presence

Where is the long evening?
When you and I watched the sun set
A golden orb
Surreal, Supreme
Suspended forever
Giver of warmth
Burning to crisp the browned grass
Aflame in an instant

But I digress
You vanished into that same sunset
And I, ablaze one moment
Plunged into abysmal darkness the next.

Wondering
Could I ever go to the recycle bin
And wish you back?
