Quantum Canvas

By Divyanjali Verma

Thinking of the universe and the atoms
and the electrons and protons
and all the other subatomic
and supra-atomic
particles and aspects I don't know about
because I gave up
on learning science as a subject
since it broke my heart and my brain.
that was my limit, you see?
infinity was too much,
so I focused on eternity.

Thinking of the universe
and everything in it,
the known and the unknown
the space between the galaxies
and the edges of black holes
the vast emptiness
between my fingers
and yours.

This isn't about love though
nor about the absence of it
this is about the fabric of reality
tailored enough
to pull together the atoms
that made up the cells
that made up you
one breath,
stardust
another
lava
and the third
the smoke of an intended end.
these atoms didn't wish
to be apart
just yet
but they are.
