Prisoners of Paradise

Tejas Gangakhedkar

Caught in the web, I breathe solace,
Can't resist now, I will collapse.
The eternal devil spoke out of the blue,
 "You will be my demise."

Is this the heaven I craved?
 The eternal endgame, I presume.
 I wonder if it’s just a spell,
With all the innocent rage I consumed.

The devil gazed right into my soul,
Wondered how this ideal human had a hole.
In the end, the devil asked, surprised,
"Set me free, spare my rotten soul."

How can I conclude this, with no broader sight?
I was the devil all along,
And we are the prisoners of paradise.
