Present Times

By V Santhanagopalan

Human history has always been
Split into ages, to be better seen
Through drivers of change - many a revolution,
Turning points in the so-called path of evolution.

From the use of stone, to copper and bronze
To iron and so on, from needs to wants.
Then the age of science and industry;
Information and internet, recently.

And one day, when this list would've grown,
Most likely, our present times would be known
As the age of the mouth - the all-powerful tool,
Impartially bestowed, to the genius and the fool.

It was once used to express and understand;
But now just to impress and thrust one's stand.
Use of loud volume, first one who speaks,
Repeated use, are some common techniques.

It can convince the world of far-fetched claims;
Even a victim can be talked into taking all blames.
Inaction can be portrayed as a strategy worthwhile;
Dedicated efforts could be simply proved futile.
Futures can be predicted in many crazy ways,
And later be construed, to fit the outcome of the days.

People can be polarised, the earth can be flattened.
History itself would wonder, what really happened.
