Poetry

By Drisshti R Jain

Poets.

A poet is not just someone,
Someone who wrote a poem.
A poet, when writes,
Brings the reader home.

Yet, to become a poet,
You must suffer a lot,
Because pain is what creates the best of them.
Kafka and Bukowski, at a certain time,
Have all been lost.

But why?
Why is it, eventually,
To be able to become a poet,
Suffering is necessary?
Is it why people hurt the ones they love —
To be able to write?

Well, let me be honest,
Even I’m not so bright.
But how can someone torment themselves?
I don’t understand this.
I have gone through things myself —
Diseases, losing loved ones, and everything else —
Which is a good thing
For a poet, for a fact.

But why is it so?
The meaning of poetry for this world
Is to be wrecked — heart and soul.
Well yes, poetry is letting go,
Letting go of the things that hurt.
But that doesn’t mean
To suffer is the ultimate goal.

Poetry should be loved for everything —
Everything which is made of love, passion, relationships, and much more —
Everything but to be victimised.
I don’t understand this,
But I guess that’s how they are.
It fills me up with anguish,
How their minds nowadays are so bizarre.

So let’s try to love poetry,
Not just for the pain they trace,
But for what the poet feels,
And not let this volatile world
Engulf something —
Something which is set to be free.
