Only Child

By Manisha Bhola Sharma

By the window, an only child,
Whose nature is so loving, tender, and mild,
Sits upon her lonely bed,
Reminiscent of what her parents said:

"Remember, oh daughter, when you have grown,
You will have to face the world alone!"

This world besets many a shade,
Varying from crimson, blue, black, and jade.
They'll come and go as time has swayed-
Soon, all of them at one point will fade.

Make your mind mighty and strong;
Distinguish between right and wrong.
Forever say a prayer in your mind;
Always be humble, wise, and kind.

Face your fears and never lose hope,
For life is like walking a narrow tightrope.
You'll be grown, and we’ll be gone-
Remember these lessons from dusk till dawn.

Reminiscing these words, she tenderly smiled,
By the window, an only child.
