ODETTA

By Mijamsa Ch Marak

Time did stop at 4 am
The tragedy in rapid dictation
Soft morning breeze coupled
With heavenly mediation.

A silent cry amidst the roar of the engine
Unwilling to openly die at the present situation
Forcing back the realisation
Screaming out for divine intervention
To tread the place with little determination.

The small cry sounded throughout the corridor
Past the glass case and the disheveled door
Made it’s way past the morning chores
Embedding itself in every body’s core.

A small battle cry disguised as a lullaby
Carried through the night
Until descending into heaven for life
Leaving mom and dad to question “why?”
When their hearts had just come to life.

Scars seen and unseen by the eyes
From birth till death did the little one try
The men with impressive strength
And the women with unfathomable grace
Could do nothing but beg and cry.

Beg the Almighty for another hour
For her mother to hold her and smile
Say “you’re mine and I’m yours”
To hold forever in her arms
Now forever in her heart.
