Nostalgia

By Meher Arora

The beats blast in her being,

like a blaring drum of a bygone time.

The past mingles into the second,

the second mingles into the chime.

Draws at her heartstrings,

the rhythm of not what is but that of what was.

All-consuming the melody rings,

Time betrays the present; time betrays the laws.

Every inch of her being exudes the same echo of the past and how

her heart softens with once-familiar feelings,

the “then” feeling synchronizes with the now.

Lost into the mesmerizing event flow,

an ache of longing seeps into her blood and bones,

of what she once experienced oh so long ago,

It highlights the blinding contrast in different times’ different tones.

In pendulating strong-wave tsunamis,

the feeling once drowned her in and drowned life out,

then receded back and left her dry

past paced back to let life go about,

to let her “now” reinstate its melody

to let “what is” prepare for “what’s next” and let nostalgia make a comeback for the new now already.
