Yours were the eyes that taught me to see,
And appreciate the beauty that surrounds me
Yours is the skin that I now wear,
Yours were the hands that moulded me like clay,
And made me what I am today.
Yours were the legs I hid behind,
When scary ghosts would come to find.
Yours was the courage that lit my way,
And kept all my problems away,
Yours was the tongue that taught me to speak,
And yours were the arms that held me when weak,
Yours was the set of the jaw that said,
Speak for yourself and never be swayed.
You were the one who knew my dreams,
You were one of a kind, it seems.
For long as I know, you never left my side,
You taught me grace and an eagle's glide.
You read me stories when I couldn't read,
You didn't know then, that you had planted a seed.
Here I am today, a reader and writer,
A believer, a preacher, a hungry retriever.
You gave me the power to believe in books,
Never to go by anything's looks.
Today, I read with a hunger that's yours,
Today, I write with the strength that's yours.
And yours is the kindness that I now have,
Yours is the name that I now have.
Yours is this beautiful face I have.
Yours is my life, my life and my soul,
You are the piece that makes me whole.
You gave me life, you gave me a reason,
I am the story that you have begun,
I'll make you proud, my guiding candle,
I am forever yours, my guardian angel.
