By Dr.Rani Mathew
Can you hear me from afar, my friend?
Though miles stretch wide, my voice finds its way,
No email or voice note, no call to summon,
Yet I know you hear me, in pulse and heartbeat.
Though distance keep us apart,
Shall I share the weight of my solitude?
Sitting here in silence, alone I abide,
No bird’s song, no rustle of leaves,
Nature hushes, suspended in stillness.
All at once I hear the hum of a solitary bee,
Yearning to catch it, to cage its flight,
But like you, it dances away from me.
A knock at the door—oh, to see your face,
Yet it is only the wind, a whispering touch,
Gently brushing against the frame.
I hear the bell ringing
To answer I moved to the door
Your soothing smile I looked for
Yet it is only a passer by
A thirsty man for a sip of water.
I have a thousand tales to tell
A thousand and one nights I need
Yet,where are you my beloved friend?
Whom shall I seek for answers?
I called to the wind,
It's whispers pointed westword.
Then to the rain, I turned,
With its answer eastword it lay
North,South,East or West,
Anywhere I will go
If only it brings me closer to you
