Living with Stones

By Diksha Gurung

Balloon tied to a stone
Afloat, but at the same place.
The winds might push it forward —
sooner or later, it will be back at that place.

The children might try to free it
but fail to untangle the string,
wrapped around like it doesn't want to let go.
The balloon feels safe.
Who knows what the children are up to?
Their intentions are unclear —
they might want to keep it, play with it, or pop it.
Worse if they keep it just to pop it.

So it stays where it was confined.

Once in a while,
the balloon can experience the joy of flight
with the stone being thrown —
but it will soon come down with the weight.

Cruel, how one can never escape.
