Last Goodbye

By Madhuvan Bajrangi

Just before the waning lamp runs out
And impenetrable darkness presides,
In those last, ethereal flickers,
May I get to see you.
Your luminous eyes and melancholy smile.
May your eyes meet mine
And see the world I saw.
At that-moment
May our hearts synchronize
And you feel what I felt.
May my deathbed be your lap
With you caressing my frail hair,
So you get a closer view
Of what you left behind.
Your soft fingers might get caught
In my tangled hair,
May you untie it strand by strand
And release all the tensions
That I carried in my life.
So I could be at peace
And my aching heart lights up
For the last time
Before it meets the encroaching darkness.
