Kindness is the magic, kindness is the way

By Somdutta Basu

A tiny kitten wandering along the grass,
Frantically trying to find a way.
The storm approaches, and it gets all drenched,
Helpless, still trying to find a way.
It is glanced upon by a young woman,
Who spots the lovely creature, awash in the rain.
She comes running and safeguards it
Under her umbrella's embrace,
Showing how sometimes,
Kindness is the magic, kindness is the way.

A desolate baby in the park sits and waits
For her mother to come.
As time passes and patience withers away,
The solitary baby, encumbered by shadows of loneliness,
There comes a passerby, a man with balloons.
Seeing the baby alone, he hands her a balloon with a hearty smile,
And the baby laughs and crackles with joy,
Showing how kindness is magic, kindness is the way.

An old lady needs to cross the road;
The streets bustle with traffic.
Keeping pace, she slowly tries to make her way.
Overwhelmed by the chaos, she steps back in dismay.
A young lad standing behind her steps ahead, holds her hand;
And lo and behold, she crosses the road and finds her way,
Showing how magical kindness is, and how kindness is the way.

Little gestures of kindness
Can have a larger-than-life impact on the world.
Whether it’s a kind, hearty smile to someone,
Or a simple “How are you today?”—
It can be someone’s calm escape from hardship, day to day.
Kindness can be the healer all along the way.

Let’s try to be harbingers of that kindness;
For kindness is the magic, kindness is the way.
