Island Resident

By Chakravati Rao

My thoughts for you, remain with me
Like a secret treasure that only my eyes should see
Like that embarrassment that the world didn’t witness yet I recall and put my head down
Like that fear that’s so irrational and fights to be real
Like that wind that refuses ,to not convey my message to you
Like the anger I have within me that I am scared to face
Like that dust that I see on the cup after I lazily served someone tea
Like the madness in my dream that even my brain rejects its full memory
Like my guftagu with myself
Like the truth I know that you know of yet pretend to ignore
Like that beautiful island I created for you in my mind
-The island has no one but some thoughts and me
-I live in this island most of the times
-I breathe it’s air and I swim in its depths
-I inhale deeply every memory of yours
-I draw smiles on sand for every smile you gifted me
-I hug the tree when I miss you
-I float on a raft wondering if anyone wonders about my island
-I burn fire with sticks and logs to remind me of the spark in your eyes

This is my island of you
Of a you, that cannot step in
Cannot see or feel what I do, even if you visit here
You see, you have to see and feel the way I do to be able to see my island
And I know that’s not going to happen
So let my island remain beautiful and alone
Like the secret treasure that only my eyes should see
