I See Me in You

By Niharika Yadav

When morning pours gold on the groaning earth,
And night's gentle fingers soothe the troubled seas,
I see beyond the veil of pain, death, and birth,
For in your eyes, I see you live in me.

Oh, if the world were a mirror that saw beyond colour and countenance,
That cast no shadow and bore no stain of guise,
The world would see; as I see you in me, beyond any boundedness,
No walls would go up obscuring our kindred skies.

No dark nor fair would veil the seeing eye,
Nor old nor young be taxed by time's decree,
For in your reflection of my soul, none can die,
I see you in me, and you make my heart free.

If borders dissolved as snows on frozen peaks,
And ego withered like the autumn leaf,
I see you in me when compassion speaks,
And heals the wounds of hatred's ephemeral grief.

Then I would care for you as I do for my soul
And give you grace as I would ask for mine,
For in your light, I behold my spirit whole,
A sacred thread through life's unbroken line.

No gold nor clothing, nor brief wealth's hold,
But brother spirits, meeting soul to soul.
If hearts gave up the tainted stories been told,
Then Earth would breathe, and live its unshackled dole.

So long as I behold me in you, hope gleams—
I see you in me, where love runs endless streams.
