I Remember Her – Delhi Poetry Slam

I Remember Her

By Mansimran Randhawa

I saw her
From the swings, I smiled at her lovely sight
She always found me, even on moonless nights
She was my source of light, for as long as I can remember.

I shielded her
More and more, from my soulful sorrow
Alive yet invisible, I became so hollow
I pray my old self, so callow, is all she remembers.

I begged her
"The s-story you love telling, won't you stay to share?"
It was so unlike her to just quietly lay there
Hope my teary-eyed glare isn't the last thing she remembers.

I loved her
I couldn't apologize or repair our bond
Time won't spare anyone its eyes fall on
I might forget that she's forever gone, but time always remembers.

I lost her
I look for a part of her somewhere stored
I fall onto the same swing, it's a moonless night once more
The silence roars as I turn to nobody anymore, with a muffled "Remember?....."
