I Ask Myself

By Anirban Chakraborty

I ask myself certain questions-
Can I get all the love from you, the way that I have wanted?
You sit in the chair, just swaying and swaying,
Uttering your apprehensions-
Would you have the time to listen to my concerns?

I count, to myself, the things that I love in you.
It turns out, only the lips and the tallest view.
I patiently watch as you make the counter moves.
Honey, how could I stay with only these idiosyncrasies of you?

I was waiting for you to show up at the door,
While I was in the hospital, playing with the act of survival.
How could you not even care to ask about my whereabouts?
Darling, is this gonna be the way I had never thought about?

I count, again, the things that I love in you.
It turns out.. nothing but only the lips and the tallest view.
I patiently watch as you make the counter moves.
Tell me, honey, are these idiosyncrasies enough to bond me with you?

You are an expert at putting up the show.
The attraction of lust doesn’t stay long in the row.
My dreams and career are always uphill-
How can I risk them with your drifting will?

You seem so nonchalant while talking to your parents.
How could I even ask for my own bearings?
Always wanting to hang out on your terms,
Let alone show up during a storm.

Not bothered about the future-
How long is this gonna nurture?
It's not.

So I move past you and get this ended.
I don’t think I made the right move-
It’s gonna take some time to sink now.
But I shall be all over it now.
