I am fighting a war everyday

By Vidissha Sheth

I fight a war every day,
Against enemies known and unknown.
I never know what weapons await,
Uncertainty is my battlefield.

The war rages deep within,
With no strong army by my side,
No armor thick enough to shield me,
Nor any weapons sharp enough to strike.

Each morning, I polish my armour of self,
Sharpen the blade of my skills,
Hoping, just maybe
Today, I shall win.

Yet like every other day,
I kneel before my demons,
Offering surrender to the shadows,
Another battle lost.

I wish for a galloping horse of self-confidence,
To carry me through this endless war.
For knights of self-worth,
To ride and fight beside me into battle.

For a potion of self-love,
Strong enough to make me stand tall.
For a cannon of self-trust,
To shatter the walls that bound me.

But until then,
I sit beneath the starry night,
Waiting for another dawn,
For another battle yet to come.
